Statement from NDP GTA critic Cheri DiNovo on cycling deaths in Toronto

Published on June 19, 2015

“In the last two weeks, three people were killed riding bikes in Toronto. Two of the incidents were hit-and-runs. This is appalling.

The hundreds of cyclists who demonstrated today at Toronto City Hall have made it clear that the growing number of road fatalities can’t be ignored.

Cities like New York City that have installed protected bike lanes along their main streets have not only increased safely, but have also seen improvements in traffic flow.  It’s time we catch up.

New Democrats have long advocated for cyclist safety and a Complete Streets approach to planning that makes Ontario roads safer for all users.”
