LONDON – London’s three MPPs released the following statement following the guilty verdict of Nathaniel Veltman, who is responsible for the heinous murder of members of the Afzaal family in 2021:
“It has been an incredibly difficult two months for communities across London, especially the Muslim community, watching this trial unfold. Over the past number of weeks, our communities had to relive the deeply violent circumstances that surrounded the murder of the beloved Afzaal family.
Today’s verdict brings well-deserved justice for the Afzaal family and the London community. Our community’s loss, with multiple generations of a family lost to hate, is irreparable. Our hearts are with the Afzaal family and their loved ones today. We are thinking of everyone in the community as we continue to mourn this loss together.
Today is a reminder that hate and Islamophobia have no place in our society. We stand with the Muslim community here in London—and across the province—against Islamophobia and commit to working together to build a better, brighter future.
We hold onto that promise with hope.”
